Solo Cup Update
Valentine Phoenix have won the inaugural Solo State Cup final in icy conditions at Thomas & Coffey Park after defeating Weston Workers Bears on penalties. After holding a 1-0 lead into the final stages of the match, Weston's defence faltered allowing Valentine to score an equaliser in the last minutes of the Solo Cup Final. The 1-1 scoreline at fulltime saw the sides go into a penalty shootout, with a vocal 'Bear Park' crowd gathered behind the goal making the task a daunting one for Valentine. Valentine however made the most of the opportunity and won the shootout to claim the Solo Cup title. The Solo Cup has been an outstanding success and Northern NSW Football has already opened nominations for clubs for the 2011 competition. The state wide competition with a total prize pool of $10,000, launched a new partnership between Schweppes Australia and Northern NSW Football with both organisations excited about the opportunity to develop the game at grassroots level, commencing with the inaugural Solo Cup.
